Going Green At The Flamingo
Ecologically-Sound Green Practices
The Flamingo Resort and Spa’s owner and management have embraced ecologically-sound green practices throughout the resort. We believe that it is our responsibility as members of the business community, the tourism community and as individuals, to choose the environmentally wise choice whenever possible, even if it costs a little more or takes a little more time. We know that this business decision will save the resort money long term and help us do our part to save the planet. With that in mind, the Flamingo management has asked each employee to think of ways they can be more environmentally productive.
As a resort, we have made a financial commitment to this philosophy through new Low E windows that have helped to increase our energy efficiency and to lower the Flamingo’s carbon footprint. We use energy efficient lighting and appliances throughout the resort.
The resort features a towel and linen reuse program in guest rooms and in the laundry, we have Xeros machines that allows a reduction in cleaning supplies and water usage by shortening drying times allowing us to save on natural gas, electrical and water usage throughout the resort.
We have reduced our energy consumption and dependency on non-renewable resources. We use insulation and weather stripping. We properly recycle/replace old wasteful fixtures including light bulbs, toilets, shower heads, faucets and appliances (like refrigerator and freezers, ice machines, washing machines, dryers, air conditioners, furnaces/heaters, and computers) as they break or wear out, with new efficient fixtures and appliances.
The Flamingo uses durable dishes, cups, glasses, mugs, tableware and serving pieces. When customers request containers to take food out of the dining areas, we use only biodegradable and compostable products. We recycle everything that can be recycled in order to divert waste from landfills.
We are working on growing the number of local suppliers for the food that is served at the Flamingo. Buying local reduces energy cost in transporting and provides fresher better products to our guests. Additionally, we recycle our kitchen oil and are implementing a compost program this year and training will begin in the next few months.
We are committed to making changes throughout the resort that are ecologically sound.
