Like a beacon of good will that is anchored in the history of a bygone era, the Flamingo Hotel Spa and Conference Center, located in Santa Rosa, California, has been welcoming guests since 1957. Two years after it opened, word sifted south to Hollywood and “those in the know” traveled north to stay in the famed hotel. Today this historic landmark has retained old-world charm with 21 Century modernity.
A delectable poolside brunch? Salsa lessons? It may sound more like Palm Springs than Santa Rosa, unless you are fortunate to have discovered Flamingo Conference Resort and Spa, a wonderful family-owned property that was voted “Santa Rosa’s Favorite Resort and Hotel” by Press Democrat readers. The hotel offers 5 star amenities at affordable prices from fantastic Montecito Heights Health Club packages to Tattoo & Blues, America’s longest running tattoo festival. The brunch has been dubbed one of the Best Brunch Buffets by Bohemian’s Best Of editions for more than a few years. Located less than one hour from Napa Valley, Russian River and Golden Gate Bridge, this ideal central Sonoma County location provides RT #101 and #12 crossroads convenience for exploring Wine Country and the Coast Wine tasting or getaway retreat on weekdays for better value.
The Bay Area Travel Writers Association had one of their monthly meetings at the Flamingo. We hosted them for their meeting and provided rooms at discounted and complimentary rates. They then toured Sonoma County. Here is what they had to say about the experience:
A Global Source for Meeting Planners
Sonoma County is big. Really big. You’ve got the Valleys… Sonoma Valley, Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley, all with about a zillion wineries… you’ve got Redwood Forests, miles of coastline, cute towns (with shopping) and world-class restaurants. And in an entirely different category, you’ve got Safaris West.
Although it is physically impossible to see even a fraction of it in 36 hours, with the help of the wonderful folks with Sonoma County Tourism, we did our best.
Chris Smith – The Press Democrat September 30, 2017
Old Santa Rosa savored the memories and New Santa Rosa the then-and-now contrasts when the 60-year-old Flamingo Hotel and 80-year-old radio station KSRO co-celebrated their anniversaries alongside the hotel pool.
The Flamingo and KSRO partied together days ago because they like each other, both are high-profile local institutions and for a time way back KSRO’s studios were at the hotel.

SEATTLE, December 1, 2014 — As a wine writer of over half a decade, there has been many discoveries of both great (and bad) wines as well as regions that simply are an awe to the senses of any oenophile and foodie. The sheer bounty of amazingly delicious wines and fresh local food found in Sonoma leave little room to possibly want more.
If you’re seeking an ultimate wine and food adventure inside the United States, you’d be hard pressed to find a more rewarding area than Sonoma. It’s a cornucopia of goodness that will reward the thirsty and hungry traveler with a feast for the palate and stomach.
